Pacific Standard Time - CSULB Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Pacific Standard Time, directed by Christine Guter, is the top vocal jazz ensemble at Cal State Long Beach.  It is a highly select group of 11 singers and a 4-piece rhythm section, showcasing refined musicianship and improvisation skills. 

The group has performed at some of the most prestigious events in the country, including the Jazz Education Network International Conference, American Choral Directors Association, California All State Music Conference, the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, the Los Angeles Jazz Festival, the Newport Beach Jazz Party, the West Coast Jazz Party, and the New York Voices Jazz Festival. The ensemble has also had the great honor of performing with internationally renowned jazz vocalists such as Kurt Elling, Peter Eldridge, and Dena DeRose. 

Pacific Standard Time has taken first place at the Monterey Jazz Festival numerous times, and has been honored with DownBeat Student Music Awards for the past FOURTEEN years in a row (2010-2023). 

Graduates of Pacific Standard Time have been featured on “The Voice”, “The Sing-Off”, National Harmony Sweepstakes, national TV commercials, movie soundtracks, and national tours (Knower, Jennifer Lopez, Chaka Khan, The Jacksons, Michael Bublé).
